Overcoming Procrastination for Entrepreneurs

Overcoming procrastination can be challenging, but with the right strategies you can increase your productivity and achieve your goals.

Here are some effective ways to help you tackle procrastination!

  • Apply the 80/20 Rule (Pareto Principle): Identify the 20% of tasks that drive 80% of results (e.g. lead generation, content, customer follow-ups). Prioritize these first.
  • Use the CEO Power Hour: Dedicate the first hour of your day to high-impact, revenue-generating actions – not admin. This alone can transform your business momentum.
  • Use the 5-Minute Rule: Tell yourself you only have to work on the task for five minutes. This lowers resistance, gets you started, and once you’ve begun, you’ll often keep going because the hardest part – starting – is done.
  • Break the Task into Tiny Steps: Procrastination often comes from feeling overwhelmed. Break your task into small, doable actions. Each small win builds momentum and reduces the mental burden.
  • Create a “Money-Making Task List”: List daily actions that directly grow your business (DM outreach, nurturing leads, creating value-based posts). When you’re unsure what to do, start here.
  • Outsource or Automate Low-Impact Tasks: If something drains you or isn’t in your zone of genius, automate it or delegate it (scheduling, graphics, email cleanup). Sometimes the task doesn’t belong on your plate.
  • Break Projects into Micro-Tasks: Instead of “Make a marketing plan,” try:
    – Brainstorm 10 content ideas
    – Choose 3 platforms
    – Outline weekly themes
    Micro-tasks prevent overwhelm.
  • Create Deadlines with Public Accountability: Announce launches, freebies or live sessions ahead of time so you must follow through.
  • Celebrate Quick Wins: Entrepreneurship is a long game. Reward progress- posting consistently for a week, finishing a project, or hitting a sales goal. It builds momentum.
  • Reconnect With Your “Why”: When you lose motivation, remember why you started, ie. To help women transform their skin, boost their confidence, and improve their well-being. A clear purpose sharpens focus and dissolves procrastination.
  • Accountability Partner: Share your goals with someone who can hold you accountable. Regular check-ins and support can help to keep you on track.
  • Remove Mental Barriers: Identify and address any underlying fears or beliefs that may be contributing to procrastination. Mental barriers are often holding you back and need to be addressed for lasting change.
  • Use Visualisation Techniques: Imagine achieving your goals and how you will feel when you have achieved them. Visualisation can motivate you to take action.
  • Address Perfectionism: Recognize it’s ok for things not to be perfect and focus on progress rather than perfection.
  • Eliminate Distractions: Identify and eliminate potential distractions in your environment. Turn off notifications, close unnecessary tabs and create a dedicated workspace.
  • Set Deadlines: Even with tasks without external deadlines, create your own. This adds a sense of urgency, thereby helping to prevent procrastination.
  • Find Your Most Productive Time: Identify the time of day when you are most alert and focused. Schedule important tasks during these peak hours to maximize productivity.
  • Reward Yourself: Establish a system of rewards for completing tasks. This can be as simple as taking a break, enjoying a treat or doing something you enjoy.
  • Seek Support: If you’re struggling to overcome procrastination, consider support from a coach, mentor or counselor who can provide guidance and encouragement.

Experiment with these strategies and find a combination that works best for you.
