Who doesn’t love a good face mask! And there are so many types: hydrating, deep cleaning clay masks, exfoliating, glycolic – the list is quite extensive.
Face masks are designed to be used intermittently to give your skin an instant boost. Depending on what your skin needs, there is a mask that can do one (or a combination) of the following:
- Hydrates and moisturizes dry skin
- Refines large pores
- Improves skin texture
- Absorbs excess oil and dirt
- Decongests clogged pores
- Minimizes the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
- Enhances elasticity
- Improves the look of breakouts
- Brightens dark spots
How often should you use a face mask?
Once or twice a week. Start with a good cleanse and follow up with your nightly routine, ie. toner, serum and moisturise, not forgetting the neck area.
Cream Masks
Cream masks are generally moisturising masks which are rich in active ingredients such as hyaluronic acid to replenish the skin. Masks with algae extracts will help to tighten and firm.
Clay Masks
Clay masks act like a magnet to attract pore clogging sebum, dirt and debris, while refining pore appearance and brighten the complexion. As the mask dries you will be able to see the oil it absorbs.
Exfoliating Masks
Exfoliating masks slough off dead skin cells and purge deep-seated dirt in your pores using hydroxy acids (like glycolic and lactic acids) and fruit enzymes (typically from papaya and pineapple). Aside from offering gentle exfoliation, exfoliating masks also have natural skin-brightening properties, which will give you a healthy glow.
Sheet Masks
There are so many kinds of sheet masks. Be sure to buy a good brand though with sustainably sourced ingredients otherwise you’re wasting your time and hard-earned money. I love a hydrating mask with Vit C, Vit B and an algae complex.
