Serums And Their Benefits

I didn’t always use a serum, but now I would not go a day without using one.  I place much more importance on using serums than another beauty products in my daily routine.  Why?

  1. Serums have a very high concentration of active ingredients and go to work fast to infuse your skin with peptides, stem cells, vitamins and minerals.  Serums also have a high concentration of nutrients such as Vitamins C, E, A and B.  Usually water-based the molecules in serums are smaller than those in moisturizers allowing them to penetrate to the deeper layers where they are needed the most.  A good serum is your base – the most important part of your routine after cleansing.
  2. Serums have no “fillers”.  Have a look at the list of ingredients in your moisturizer and you’ll find a long list of ingredients, some of which you will have no idea as to what they are!  Many moisturizers contain a high percentage of water, which is a “filler”.  So you are getting less of the good stuff than you think if you use something cheap (and usually nasty)!
  3. Being water-based you are likely to experience less breakouts.  Serums absorb quickly without leaving any residue than can cause breakouts as they provide hydration without any greasiness.
  4. Serums are formulated to target wrinkles, dark spots, pores, fine lines, sagging skin and hyper-pigmentation – the fantastic delivery system going right to the source to go to work for you.

Hyaluronic Acid

I thought I would add some information about Hyaluronic Acid, which I love.  Hyaluronic Acid is a very powerful moisture-binding ingredient that keeps the skin hydrated and plump, improves elasticity and reverses free-radical damage.

It can be worn alone (if you have oily skin) under your moisturizer if you have dry skin, works well with acne medication, other anti-aging products and sunscreens.

Everyone knows that winter is very tough on the skin. Constant exposure to cold weather and harsh winds, combined with the dryness of heating and air conditioning can quickly take a toll.  Hyaluronic acid serum is a great way to fight the dryness.  HA is an essential serum during winter. Here are just some of the reasons why winter use of hyaluronic acid serum becomes so important as we get older.

HA Increases Collagen Production

We are all too aware that as we age, our bodies also begin to produce less collagen resulting in loss of volume and firmness, and an increase of lines, wrinkles and sagging skin.  Products that are designed to enhance collagen production can be incredibly expensive because they have to penetrate deep into the skin. On the other hand, Hyaluronic acid serum, is great value by comparison and in addition to hydrating your skin, it can also help with the body’s production of collagen. This means that when you use hyaluronic acid serum in the winter, your skin will become more hydrated and have more collagen, decreasing fine lines and wrinkles.

HA Occurs Naturally in the Body

Hyaluronic acid is produced naturally by the body, and it works to help hydrate the skin cells. The problem is that as we get older, our body doesn’t produce as much of this ingredient as it used to.  A younger person will still see benefits from using it, but someone who is a few years older will most likely see even greater results. This becomes especially important during the winter months because that is when the skin has to fight the hardest to retain moisture, making hyaluronic acid serum essential.
